POWER makes concrete impacts in the lives of poor
and working-class families via its issue-based organizing
in the areas of affordable housing, improving public
education and coalition organizing (including saving
the State and Federal safety net and work on immigration
issues). POWER leaders understand that by organizing,
building relationships and fighting for neighborhood
and citywide agendas, they can not only win concrete
improvements for their families and neighborhoods but
also, more importantly, build a base of organized people.
It is this base of organized people that gives our
community power. This transforms the way local
leaders see themselves in relation to others, helping
them become powerful and important voices in shaping
public policy and effecting community change.

Coalition Building
POWER’s
local organizing campaigns clearly foster social
transformation but the impact of our work is greatly
expanded by our strong collaborations with local
and national organizations. These relationships have
given POWER leaders a stronger voice and more significant
impact at the state and federal levels. Our key collaborations
include:
- National
Campaign for Jobs & Income Support
- Center
for Community Change
- Los Angeles ACORN
- Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles (CHIRLA)
- Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles

Action
- L.A. Coalition to End Hunger and Homelessness
- Southern California Association of Nonprofit Housing (SCANPH)
- United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA)
- Coalition L.A.
