What We Do

POWER works to develop the power necessary to create change by recruiting and developing leaders in low-income communities who exceed their own expectation of themselves through direct action, negotiation, relationship building, and winning campaigns. Leaders to want to learn, want to work and want to win are the engine that drives social change, and are in the driver’s seat of our campaigns. We believe that no one organization will ever be large enough to win on the scale necessary to confront the challenges we face, so we believe in movement-building and developing a “progressive infrastructure” of allies with different strengths and area of expertise to build a comprehensive justice movement.  We win when we make a widely and deep-felt change that our leaders not only negotiate for building power, but help to implement (wielding power) through work and self-discipline.
